Difference between guide plate and guide pin of stamping die

In the metal stamping parts processing plant, the guide plate and guide pin belong to the positioning parts on the stamping die. Their role in the stamping process is to guide the feeding direction of materials when strip or strip blanking is adopted. What's the difference between the guide plate and the guide pin?

Guide plate is often used in blanking die and progressive die. The guide pin is mostly used in the blanking die and composite die with elastic discharge plate. Guide pin is a simplified form of guide plate.

The thickness of the guide plate depends on the thickness and quality of the strip and the positioning form of the workpiece. The distance between the positioning parts of the guide plates on both sides shall be equal to the strip width plus a gap of 0.2 ~ 1.0mm. If the strip width tolerance is too large, a side pressing device needs to be installed on the guide plate on one side to eliminate the strip width error.

No matter what kind of positioning part on the stamping die, its function is to use the strip to have the correct position on the die: one is to position in the feeding direction, and the other is to feed and guide.
